Who Is Driving Education Policy In NC?

Last year, I called attention to a group called the NC Superintendent Large District Consortium and their intention to call for a seven-year lock in of Common Core in the state.

I’ve kept tabs and have questions about who is driving education policy in the state of North Carolina.

I placed a Freedom of Information Act request last September and have just recently received the information back from Wake County Public Schools. I requested emails that had “NC Superintendent Large District Consortium” and “Common Core” in the subject or body of the emails.

Dear John Kasich…

Ohio Governor John Kasich has 2016 presidential aspirations and was on FOX news this past Sunday, where he towed the pro-Common Core line. See the video clip.

Guillory’s ‘Nudge’ Article

On January 14th, I wrote about the latest education non-profit, EducationNC. In that article, I made an assertion:

It is my personal assertion that this organization is less about “nonpartisan news” in education and more about branding and steering education narratives in North Carolina with an eye towards influencing public opinion. Time will tell, but my gut says this is a PR outfit dressed up as a non-profit. Looking at their board and supporters lends some credence to this hunch; same people, same money.

An article currently up at EducationNC by one of its founders, Ferrel Guillory, seems to be proving that assertion true. The of the article title is, Why Graduating From High School Isn’t Enough. This article is a fine example of narrative driving. Ironically enough, the article opens with the words, “Rhetoric matters.”

Right leaning think tank, Civitas has unveiled an interesting and useful tool/website: Mapping The Left. Web address: http://mappingtheleft.com/

After tracking down what seemed to be a never-ending set of spiderweb connections that were exposed along with BlueprintNC’s attack memo, a project like this was bound to come along. And it has.
