Graham High band director arrested on indecent liberties charges

The band director at Graham High School in the Alamance-Burlington Schools district was charged last week with indecent liberties.

Solomon Cheetah Reynolds, age 24, was arrested by Greensboro Police Department officers and was charged with indecent liberties with a student.

Reynolds was arrested on Dec. 10, was issued a $2,500 bond, and was released the same day.

According to reports, On Dec. 2 someone inside the Alamance-Burlington district’s office of human resources reported concerns about Reynolds and a student to the Graham Police Department.

Police started an investigation which found Reynolds was having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl. The relationship may have begun last spring with the female student was attending Graham High School.

The investigation continues, according to law enforcement. Any person with information is asked to call Graham Police Department Detective N. Sakin at (336) 570-6711.

No photo was released with the arrest information, however, booking information listed Solomon as “white.” An Oct. 25 tweet by Graham High School congratulating Reynolds on being the “Red Devil of the Month” did include a photo:

Reynolds was the “Director of Band” at Graham High. He was hired on Aug. 11, 2020, under a one-year contract with the option to renew. At the time of his arrest, Reynolds was making $40,700 a year.

According to Alamance-Burlington Public Schools, Reynolds was suspended with pay on Dec. 2. Six days later, on Dec. 8, the district suspended him without pay.

There are no voter registration records in North Carolina for Reynolds. There is an active teaching license on file for Reynolds with the state that was issued in July of this year:

This is the third arrest of an Alamance-Burlington Public Schools teacher tracked since 2019.

In 2020, an Alamance-Burlington bus driver/former coach and a high school student were arrested for their involvement in a sexual assault on a middle school student that took place on a bus.

Samuel Bradley Freeze, then age 42, was charged with felony aiding and abetting an attempted second-degree forcible sex offense, felony child abuse by sexual act committed on a juvenile, and four counts of misdemeanor child abuse. He was issued a $50,000 bond and which was posted and he was released.

Brandon Tyler Lane, then age 18, was charged with felony attempted second-degree forcible sex offense, misdemeanor sexual battery, and four counts of misdemeanor assault. He received a $10,000 bond and is no longer in custody according to Alamance County jail records.

The charges and possible sentences against Freeze and Lane were substantial:

  • Aiding and abetting a Second-degree forcible rape is a Class B1 felony with a minimum sentence of 144 months and can result in life without parole
  • Second-degree forcible rape is a Class C felony with a sentence from 44 to 182 months.
  • Felony Child Abuse is a Class D felony with a sentence of 38 to 160 months.
  • Sexual battery is a Class A1 misdemeanor carry ing 1 to 150 days of active, intermediate, or community punishment and a Discretionary fine.
  • Misdemeanor assault is a Class 2 with 1 to 60 days of active, intermediate, or community punishment plus a $200 Fine.

There has been no update on this case to date.
