Gates Grants Show Push On ‘Personalizing’ Learning
I’ve gotten in the habit of checking out the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation grant site on a regular basis.
I recently pulled up all the 2014 ‘college ready’ grants. The amount of money being doled out for 116 grants was over $87 million. This $87 million spans only 2014 through 9/28/14.
The second largest grant was to the CCSSO for over $6 million to support the implementation of their ‘strategic plan’:

The Gates Backed Contraception Microchip
The headline to this story is not from The Onion, but BBC news:
A contraceptive computer chip that can be controlled by remote control has been developed in Massachusetts.
The chip is implanted under a woman’s skin, releasing a small dose of levonorgestrel, a hormone.
This will happen every day for 16 years, but can be stopped at any time by using a wireless remote control.
The project has been backed by Bill Gates, and will be submitted for pre-clinical testing in the US next year – and possibly go on sale by 2018.
The device measures 20mm x 20mm x 7mm and will be “competitively priced”, its creators said.
I wonder if it will have the same guarantee Gates gave on Common Core: Continue reading

The Gates Coup Of Education
Over the weekend, the Washington Post featured an article on Bill Gates and his foundation, which supplied nearly 3 billion in funding to develop, promote and push Common Core. Gates couldn’t do it alone, he needed the Department of Education on board and dangle a carrot in front of the states. He got it with the Race To The Top grant. What resulted was an education coup.
What opponents have been saying from the start is true: Common Core is not state-led. It’s Gates-led.
The follow-up article today in the Washington Post calls it just that, an education coup. The opening of this article lays bare the key spots of how this happened, with little or no vetting by the states.

“We Don’t Need Last Minute Change”
Stop me if you’ve heard this line recently:
“They do not need a last-minute change. They do not need chaos in the classroom.”
Sounds like the NC Chamber of Commerce or perhaps Senator Stein or Rep. Brandon complaining about dropping the Common Core? Maybe Dr. Atkinson?
It’s none of them, although any one of them has said something similar in the last few weeks. No, this quote comes from Louisiana’s state superintendent. Continue reading
