NC School District Sends Home Common Core Math Home To Parents
Here in North Carolina, parent ire over Common Core math is alive and well. Clearly, staff and school officials are hearing about it since Wake County Schools in North Carolina is apparently making an effort to teach the Common Core math strategies to parents of 2nd graders.
This speaks volumes to the developmentally inappropriate nature of Common Core math that this parent instruction set is even needed for elementary level math.
In years prior, I can attest we did not receive such instructional materials from Wake County concerning Common Core. I’ve scanned and uploaded a set of parent instructions we’ve recently received to one of my document repositories.

N&O Op-Ed Skips Mention Of “Strategic Plan” Cost
How nice for Phil Kirk to write about the “strategic plan” costing Wake taxpayers over 58K. http://t.co/uc3mZwvgP2 #nced #wcpss
— LL1885 – A.P. Dillon (@LadyLiberty1885) August 23, 2014
Isn’t that special? A nice rah-rah article drawing attention to the costly “strategic plan” for Wake County Schools. Where was this kind of press for the Superintendent’s ‘listening’ forum earlier this year? Continue reading

Wake School Board Hires New Principal For Cary School At $131,556
Wake County’s School Board has hired a new Principal for Panther Creek, Camille Hedrick, at a salary of $131,556.
The Board also hired three others:
Fay Jones – $84,341 (Carpenter Elementary School)
Elena Ashburn – $66,078 (East Garner Middle School)
Kendra Culberson – $86,028 (Herbert Akins Elementary School)

The Wake School board has been complaining about their recent budget problems. Yet they’ve got an “Office of Equity Affairs” with a budget of $204,846 and is headed up by David Trice who’s getting paid $125k. Then there’s the “Strategic Plan” which has cost taxpayers to date over $58k. Small wonder there are budget issues in Wake County Schools — administrative bloat has been a factor for years now and shows no signs of stemming.

WCPSS’s Envision “Strategic Plan” And Phil Kirk
Earlier this week, I wrote about the Wake County Schools “Envision” Campaign costing over $58k to date. I was corrected by WCPSS on Twitter — it’s not a campaign, it’s a “strategic plan”. @LadyLiberty1885 That’s the point. The 51k is … Continue reading

HS Chamber Event Misinforms On Common Core
On August 1st, I wrote about an event centering on education being put on by the Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce. It was for Chamber members only and was sponsored by WHIZard Academy. It’s worth reading the Holly Springs Chamber plan.
At this event, Rep. Paul Stam and school board member Susan Evans were present as were Area Superintendent Lloyd Gardener and Assistant Superintendent of Facilities Joe Desormeaux.
The topics were Common Core and School caps. Not one person on the stage, save Rep. Stam, offered the close to the truth on Common Core but instead offered regurgitated talking points.
Video was taken and can be accessed here.
Here are some of my notes Continue reading

More Empty Attacks From A Wake Cty School Board Member
The Wake County School Board loves their Common Core. Just ignore Common Core is a fundamentally flawed experiment that is proving to be a bigger and bigger train wreck with each passing day. Wake County School Board members continue to make statements attacking the public, mainly parents, who oppose Common Core. It’s not Bill “clueless on Core” Fletcher this time. It’s the newbie board member, Monika Johnson-Hostler.
More Proof the Wake County school board doesn’t represent the people. Johnson-Hostler defends Common Core http://t.co/SxMwy9t8Ob #nced #wake

You remember Ms. Johnson-Hostler? The candidate with the messy personal finances backed by big PAC money and tied to Great Schools in Wake Coalition?
She apparently is just getting the “politicizing” attack strategy memo or perhaps the Board members are just taking turns so there is continued repetition of the theme. I find these kind of statements coming out of a woman sitting on the board of one of the largest school districts to be really scary. Excerpts below are from the News and Observer on 7/16/14.
