CASE 21 Tests In NC

Parents in various areas of North Carolina will have children facing the CASE 21 test in the coming weeks. My own child, a second grader, will be required to take this ‘benchmarking’ test.

I was unaware up until I saw a small comment on my child’s homework that CASE 21 was given to my child’s class the following week. State Board of Education members I spoke with about the test were also surprised this was being given in second grade.

Being the busy-body I am, I emailed our school with a list of questions and concerns

Not only was the content ‘aligned, but so was the method. GED test takers now have to do it online. The result has been a catastrophic drop in the passage rate.

NC State Superintendent Spins Changing Testing Scoring System (Video)

Spin, June. Spin.

Atkinson says it was to make information more “granular”. Come again?
Tammy Howard reiterates and says the system gives more information to teachers. Really?

Both Atkinson and Howard manage to not to mention Common Core a single time. Common Core is supposed to be high reaching, but yet we have DPI moving the goal posts.

Folks, Common Core is the reason they changed the scoring after last year’s disastrous EOC’s. By changing the scoring system, no one can compare them to last year and that is the whole point — not more “granular” information.
