HS Chamber Event Misinforms On Common Core
On August 1st, I wrote about an event centering on education being put on by the Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce. It was for Chamber members only and was sponsored by WHIZard Academy. It’s worth reading the Holly Springs Chamber plan.
At this event, Rep. Paul Stam and school board member Susan Evans were present as were Area Superintendent Lloyd Gardener and Assistant Superintendent of Facilities Joe Desormeaux.
The topics were Common Core and School caps. Not one person on the stage, save Rep. Stam, offered the close to the truth on Common Core but instead offered regurgitated talking points.
Video was taken and can be accessed here.
Here are some of my notes Continue reading

Buried Study Bombshell: Common Core Will Double Drop-Out Rate
In a 2013 study ordered by one of the monetary backers of Common Core, the Carnegie Corporation, a bombshell bit of results was buried: Common Core implementation would double the nation’s drop-out rate.
Take the following and the report with a grain of salt, the ones doing this survey are on Team Pro-Common Core. The report also has the flavor of supporting a sweeping re-brand or “re-design” attempt, which arguably will fail just as badly as the initial implementation.
Be sure to read the tweets mentioned in the first link at beginning of the article too. Excerpt from Scholastic Administrator, emphasis added below.
Carnegie’s Leah Hamilton and Anne Mackinnon, in Opportunity by Design, and the McKinsey Group estimate that the implementation of Common Core (without first establishing a level of systematic supports that would clearly be impossible) would double the nation’s dropout rate. Continue reading

Have You Heard Of APUSH?
Have you heard of APUSH?
APUSH stands for Advanced Placement United States History.
Many may recall having taken AP History, AP English or others when they were in High School. The AP courses have been around for decades, yet now are being changed in a radical manner.
The changes to APUSH are being handed down by Common Core Architect, David Coleman. scG-coleman-unqualifiedYes, the same David Coleman who was part of the collection of ‘unqualified’ people to write and develop education standards.
