Charlotte Observer Associate Editor Takes Pot Shots At McCrory

Another day, another display of editorial hackery from the Charlotte Observer /News and Observer. Associate Editor Peter St. Onge is either truly ignorant on Common Core or willfully so. Either way, he’s using it to bash Governor McCrory and either way, I’m glad we don’t subscribe to this outlet. What biased garbage.
Pssst – Mr. St. Onge? Do you realize McCrory’s base is beginning to think he’s selling out to the Democrats in trying to be Jim Hunt 2.0? Just look at his administration.

The Education and Workforce Innovation Commission

Is education about learning or is it about a workforce? Maybe a bit of both. With Common Core, it’s all about setting up kids to be piled into one profession or another based on data collected on them.

Governor McCrory signed the Common Core repeal bill for North Carolina, but seemed nonplussed. His comments on the matter, prior to signing, seemed to indicate a possible rebrand attempt would take place. Or maybe he’s got his own Core-like program set up: The Education and Workforce Innovation Commission.

This commission is in our state statutes “115C-64.15. This commission was created via the General Assembly. It looks like HB 902 was a first attempt and the first line of the bill reads as follows and gets progressively public/private partnership laden:

“The Education and Workforce Innovation Act will accelerate progress toward high academic rigor and skills development with the goal of graduating every student both college and career ready.”

#DM7 Article: The NGA and Common Core

This is a repost of my weekly column at DaTechGuy Blog: The NGA and Common Core

———————————–

By A.P. Dillon

The National Governors Association (NGA) met recently in Tennessee. They had a lot on their agenda. Noticeably missing: Common Core.

That doesn’t mean that it wasn’t talked about, in fact, it would seem the press actually asked about it. Governors Fallin, Christie and Walker all had comments on it. I’ve captured those below: Continue reading

About That Textbook Commission

Our Governor almost has more Democrats working for him these days than Bev Perdue did.
I’ve already pointed out his Democrat education advisers, now I’m talking about the textbook commission. Continue reading

Scott Walker Calls For Legislature To Repeal Common Core

Wisconsin the next state to join the Common Core repeal movement?

Michael Brickman hardest hit? => Gov Walker Calls on the State Legislature to Pass Legislation to Repeal #CommonCore http://t.co/3iJvuuonqM

— LL1885 – A.P. Dillon (@LadyLiberty1885) July 18, 2014

For those of you not understanding my reference to Michael Brickman in the tweet above, let me explain. Michael Brickman was the education adviser to Governor Walker when Wisconsin went with the Common Core. Michael Brickman is a policy wonk at the Fordham Institute and has spent the last year or so going around to state legislatures telling them how crappy their standards are compared to Common Core. He’s been proven wrong on a few occasions.

Brickman brought his act to North Carolina’s Common Core Legislative Research committee at the General Assembly last year. He touted the Fordham ‘Grading Report’ as proof North Carolina’s standards were subpar. He failed to mention that the Gates Foundation funded it. You can read more about the adventures of Mr. Brickman and my radio run-in with him in these articles:
