The Compassionate @SenatorHagan Snubs Thatcher Passing
Yesterday the world lost an icon of leadership, hope and a woman with more courage in her pinky finger than most people have in their whole body. Twitter, celebrities, politicians, average citizen, blogs and print media all produced tributes and condolences. (Read: Rest In Peace, Iron Lady)
Well, at least most did. There was an ugly side to yesterday’s news. That’s how the Left rolls, folks. Notably missing from the condolence tweets was Senator Kay Hagan, who is seeking reelection this year in North Carolina. She felt it was more important to promote her Twitter Townhall and congratulate basketball coaches yesterday:
Luckily, Senator Burr made up for it with several tweets and I thanked him:
I checked Senator Hagan’s page, finding it hard to believe she didn’t at least acknowledge Thatcher’s passing, but nothing was in her press releases.

Wake County GOP 2013 Convention Notables
On March 26th, the Wake County GOP held its annual convention in the Kerr Scott building at the NC State Fairgrounds. Party business, internal elections and other matters were handled between various invited speakers. News of note was that Donna Williams was elected Wake GOP Chair. Watch Williams video pitch for GOP Chair:

Speakers at the convention included former school board superintendent, Tony Tata. Tata is now serving as DOT chief after being tapped on the shoulder by Governor Pat McCrory. Also speaking was Dr. Greg Brannon, the first official challenger to Kay Hagan for her Senate seat in 2014. Dr. Brannon, a Cary OB-GYN, is backed by various NC Tea Party groups. Given Dr. Brannon’s work with the grassroots group Founders’ Truth, paired with his limited government ideas, it is easy to see why he is attractive to the Tea Party. Here is Dr. Brannon’s speech to the Wake GOP:
[youtube=http://youtu.be/GgctOsADRo4]“We understand what the problem is. The problem is, that people are telling us, that the collective is superior to the individual. We know our Founders fought and died for individuals over the collective.”

Kay Hagan’s Hired Guns
North Carolina Senator Kay Hagan has been busy the last week. Hagan has a reelection on the horizon in 2014 and it would seem she’s fairly concerned about it with the hiring of three new campaign staffers. One who ran the Tester campaign in Montana and two from Claire McCaskill in Missouri.
Last week it was Preston Elliott, who is all but a ghost on the web. What we do know about him is that he ran John Tester’s campaign in Montana. Even the announcement of his position with Tester was lacking of any real detail, although we know Elliott’s first move was to ask for money.
This week, it’s two finance related staffers who both worked for Claire McCaskill in Missouri. Hagan announced Erika Brees and John Coady, who rivals Elliott for lack of information found on him, will join her reelection campaign. These folks don’t leave much of an internet footprint and what is there is sanitized – likely by design to keep their candidate out front. Still, it would be nice to know something about them. NC Senators MIA From Historic Drone Filibuster (Updated)
Last night, Senator Rand Paul filibustered the nomination of John Brennan. It’s not the nomination he was trying to block, that much had to be clear to most people. The Senate is Democrat controlled and cloture is likely inevitable although it will be harder with a 60 vote threshold. Instead of blocking, Paul was attempting to open something. That something is awareness that our government, to date, has yet to openly state for the record they oppose the use of drones against our own citizens on our own soil.
What’s more, this President, a man who has received a Nobel Peace Prize, also refuses to renounce the assassination of US Citizens on their own soil by drone. The President has trotted out mouthpieces to run interference, but it is his own inaction that speak volumes.
Perplexing that Rand Paul has to go through this to ask a Nobel Peace Prize winner whether or not he agrees with killing U.S. citizens.
— David Angell (@djangell) March 6, 2013
Perplexing indeed. What adds to this insanity is the lack of support shown to Senator Paul on the floor last night. Whatever you think of Senator Paul, his politics or filibustering, this was a moment in history and the majority of the Senate missed it.
This was a moment where an elected official stood up and for nearly 13 hours assailed the notion that our own government thinks it has the right to kill its own citizens. It was a chance to enter this disturbing argument into the history books. This question needed addressing and not on the talking head cable news circuit where it would likely be mocked, buried or edited. It needed to be more permanent. Senator Paul recognized this and acted. Think long and hard about that. Continue reading
#Senate2014: Kay Hagan Gets A Challenger In NC
Dr. Greg Bannon of Cary, NC has officially thrown his hat in the ring. His candidacy was mentioned in my Senate 2014 sticky post earlier this week, but today I received a press release (below).
The Daily Haymaker reported at the end of January:
The Republican Liberty Caucus and The Eastern North Carolina Tea Party have united behind a Wake County physician’s effort to unseat U.S. Senator Kay Hagan. Dr. Greg Brannon of Cary has thrown his hat in the ring as a GOP challenger to US Senator Kay Hagan — who is up for reelection in 2014.
Brannon announced his intentions Saturday at a Tea Party event in Winterville, North Carolina. Regular listeners of the Bill LuMaye radio show in The Triangle may recognize Brannon, who is a frequent guest. Brannon also is known for his work with a grassroots organization called Founders’ Truth.
Some may already be expressing concerns about Brannon’s lack of statewide name ID. Think back to 2008. Who — outside of Greensboro and the legislative building — had heard of Kay Hagan?
Official press release received today:
Brannon Makes it Official: Announces U.S. Senate Campaign Kickoff Tour
RALEIGH, North Carolina – Dr. Greg Brannon, a Cary pro-life Obstetrician and conservative leader in North Carolina, will officially announce his bid to challenge Democrat Senator Kay Hagan with a two-day “Restore the American Dream” kickoff tour on Wednesday, February 27.
The eight-city tour will highlight Greg Brannon’s background, his motivation for running and his passion for restoring constitutional government in America. The “Restore the American Dream” tour begins Tuesday morning in Wilmington.

#NC Alleged Voter Fraud – Jim Turner, NC BOE Answers
A ton of people know who Jim Turner is now.
I am sure I was not the only one who emailed the NC Board of Elections, inquiring that one Jim Turner be investigated for potentially having voted multiple times during early voting in North Carolina.
Close up of his comment:
Turner doesn’t even think his comment, true or not, had anything wrong with it:
Indeed, I was not the only one to follow up with the Board of elections. They were apparently overwhelmed. I did receive this answer though:
“We are aware of this claim of multiple voting posted on Facebook. We share your concerns. A preliminary investigation found that this claim is without merit, but we are continuing our investigation of this matter. This claim has been referred to appropriate law enforcement authorities.”

It would seem he intended to cause a stir and he succeeded. Continue reading
