2ndVote App Rolls Out Education Issues Topic – Common Core Included

A few days ago I covered a new app put out by 2nd Vote that helps consumers decide where they want to spend or not spend their money based on the dollars companies spend on a host of issues. 2nd Vote has just rolled out the Education issues part of their app.

Press Release:

2nd Vote Releases New Issue: Education

2nd Vote, a conservative organization dedicated to connecting public policy and corporate activism, has added Education as a new issue just in time for the school year. The new scores can be found on the 2nd Vote app and website.

“We are continually looking for ways to provide consumers with the information they need to make conservative shopping choices,” said Chris Walker, Executive Director of 2nd Vote. “By adding education, 2nd Vote users can see the stance of several companies on issues that concern parents such as Common Core and school choice.”

#DM7 Article: Back To School – At Home and Opting Out

This is a reposting of my DaTechGuy article: Back To School – At Home and Opting Out

By A.P. Dillon

Millions of kids head back to school soon. Many have already begun the new school year. In many state, that means heading back to more Common Core. That is the case in North Carolina for the time being until the state’s standards replacement commission can get to work. Continue reading

Common Core Aligned: Khan Academy

“…to create just these kinds of tests—next-generation assessments aligned to the common core. When the tests are aligned to the common standards, the curriculum will line up as well—and that will unleash powerful market forces in the service of better teaching.” – Bill Gates, 2009 Speech To Natl. Conference of State Legislatures

The goal is to align everything so that students and the money have no where to go but Common Core.

Last time we looked at Edulastic. Today we look at Khan Academy.
We’ve used Khan Academy in our house prior to Common Core. My kids loved it and the instructions were clear and entertaining. These days, not so much. They’ve gone Common Core Aligned.

CCSSO President Dances Around NC Superintendent Reelection Question

More speculation on whether CCSSO President Elect Atkinson will be running for NC Superintendent again. Host Tom Campbell falls all over himself to set her up positively in his interviews with her. Campbell mentions Cash Michael’s dropped the bomb in a past episode that Atkinson wasn’t running again.

During the brief interview segment, Atkinson says she has learned to “live with the turbulence” so our CC June False Witnesskids can have a great education.

Well, much of the recent turbulence has been self-inflicted — Oops, there I go again, bearing “false witness”.

New App Helps Consumers Spend “Conservatively”

A new app launched called 2nd Vote “keeps your spending aligned with your conservative values.” The app tracks corporate spending in an array of issue areas, helping consumers determine if this or that company is somewhere they want to spend their dollars.

“If you’re like a lot of us, you cast your first vote in an elections every couple of years, and wonder if you’re making a difference. Whether you know it or not, you’re casting a vote every day and making a difference, sometimes in support of causes and issues that you would never support on your own. That’s where 2nd Vote comes in.” – 2nd Vote About Page

Core Supporters Crying In Their Talking Points As Teacher Support Crumbles

The support for the Common Core standards has been steadily taking a nose-dive for the better part of the year with the public and parents of school aged kids. Now teacher support of the standards has also dropped by 30% in just one year from 76% to 46% in the latest EducationNext poll.

If you want to read a really great explanation of the drop in teacher support that puts Fordham’s Mike Petrilli to shame with a long list including “lying”, “slander” and “shut up” , go read this article at Huffington Post: How the Common Core Lost Teacher Support . I won’t spoil it with a big excerpt, but here is one of my favorite portions under the section “backpedaling”:

“But the thing about CCSS implementation is that Core boosters got to do everything that they said they wanted to. So if the implementation messed things up that either means 1) they don’t know what they’re talking about or 2) the Core really are that bad.”
