A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Public Schools teacher who was arrested in Gaston County will be extradited to Texas to face child sex crime charges.

Malakani Jones, age, was charged with aggravated sexual assault on of a child by Texas authorities. He was apprehended in Gaston County in a joint effort by U.S. Marshalls and the Gaston Police Department on May 23. He will be extradited to Texas.
Jones is listed as a reading teacher at Hidden Valley Elementary, located in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Public Schools (CMS) district, however, CMS officials said he was suspended pay but did not specify when that suspension happened or why.
It is unclear at this time if Jones committed any crimes while employed in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Public Schools district.
According to information obtained by FOX44, the incident happened last fall at a Texas Elementary School, and Police in Killeen, Texas said the assault was reported to them in February of this year.
A report by Texas news outlet KWTX says Jones taught in the Killeen Independent School District (KISD) at Alice Douse Elementary School starting on Aug. 2, 2022, through Dec. 16, 2022.

Killeen ISD Interim Superintendent of Schools, Megan Bradley, shared a brief timeline of the events in a letter to parents and staff obtained by KWTX.
“The former music teacher was on your campus from August 2, 2022, to December 16, 2022,” her letter states.
“He never returned to your campus after Christmas break and resigned from KISD on January 13, 2023. The district received a complaint on February 6, 2023, after he had resigned from the district, and immediately took swift action to begin an investigation.”
There is no teaching license on file with the state of North Carolina for Jones.
