A Scotland County Public Schools Band teacher was arrested on sex-related charges involving a student.

BRITTON SCOTT GOODWIN
Britton Scott Goodwin, age 32, was arrested on April 26 and was charged with two counts of sexual activity with a student and two counts of taking indecent liberties with a student. He was later released on a $25,000 unsecured bond.
Scotland County Schools issued a statement on Facebook:
Mr. Britton Goodwin is no longer employed by the Scotland County Schools. While we cannot share specific personnel information, student safety is our top priority and SCS quickly and thoroughly investigates and responds to concerns that relate to student safety, and involves law enforcement when necessary. Any specific inquiries about this matter should be directed to law enforcement.
It is yet unclear if Scotland County Public Schools has reported Goodwin to the N.C. State Board of Education as required per state law.
An investigation by the Laurinburg Police Department Criminal Investigation Division began on Mar. 28, 2022, following the department received allegations pertaining to Scotland High School Band Director, Britton Scott Goodwin, and a student.
Investigators looking into the claim that Goodwin had an inappropriate and sexual relationship with a student both on and off the Scotland High School campus during the 2015-2016 school year.
