A now-former Wake County high school teacher assistant was arrested and has been charged with having sex with a female student.
Xavier Keshawn Kearney, age 22, was arrested and charged with two felony counts of committing a sex act with a student.
Kearney was issued a $30,000 bond and was released from the Wake County Detention Center.
Warrant information shows the alleged incidents took place between September 15, 2017, and May 18, 2018.
According to Wake County Public Schools spokeswoman Lisa Luten, Kearney had been hired by the district in August of 2017.
According to Luten, he had transferred from Knightdale High School to Wake Forest High School on Sept. 18, 2017.
Kearney might have known charges was coming. He was allowed to resign on November 27, 2017 – just one week prior to police opening an investigation alleged incidents.
Knightdale High’s principal James Argent sent a note to parents regarding Kearney.
“When the allegations were brought to our attention, we immediately reported them to law enforcement. School officials are working with law enforcement during the investigation. We are also conducting our own investigation into these allegations.
While privacy laws prevent me from providing much information about this specific situation, I can share with you that the alleged incident did not involve a student in his class and it did not occur at Wake County school or during school hours.”
Argent’s note also said that Kearney had contact with 9 students during his time at Knightdale High. None of those students appear to be Kearney’s victim.
Kearney is the 7th Wake County Public Schools employee to be arrested in 2018.
