Jimmy Mallory, age 48, was arrested and charged with misdemeanor child abuse after assaulting his 14-year-old son at a basketball game earlier this month.  The assault took place at a community center and not on the grounds of Brentwood Elementary where Mallory teaches second grade.

A pre-recorded phone call informed Brentwood parents of Mallory’s suspension. Brentwood Principal Robert Epler explained that the assault didn’t involve a student and didn’t happen at the school.

Wake County Schools officials said that Mallory was suspended on January 22nd with pay pending an investigation. Mallory has been an employee since 2011.

In a released 911 call, a female is heard telling the dispatcher that a man was slamming a teenager’s head “up against the concrete wall” and describes the man as “out of control.” Allegedly other spectators and parents could not calm Mallory down.
