A Wake County Public Schools teacher has been arrested and charged in connection with allegedly dragging a special needs child down a hallway.

Warrant information says Holland dragged a child under the age of 16 down a hallway. The alleged incident occurred on Jan. 30, 2024.
Holland has a previous criminal record for two DWIs in 2021.

Holland is the second Wake County Public Schools special needs teacher arrested for similar charges. Last December, Tiffany Ebron was arrested and charged with one count of misdemeanor child abuse, one count of assault on a child under the age of 12, and one count of assault on an individual with a disability.

Carver Elementary Principal Wenitra Merritt sent a brief message to parents:
“I want to assure you that we take the safety of our students and staff members very seriously. While privacy laws prevent me from providing much additional information about the situation, I can share that Ms. Holland is suspended.”

There is no teaching license on file with the state for Lori Miller Holland.
Updates:
Holland was convicted on Jan. 17, 2025 of assault on a handicapped person, a Class 1A misdemeanor. She was given a suspended sentence of 12 months parole/probation.
Additionally, court records show she was convicted on July 24, 2024 of a charge of Level 2 DWI.
