Alexander County Schools employee charged for assaulting student

A now-former Alexander County Public Schools employee has been charged in connection with an assault on a student.

Teresa Ellison Campbell, age 63, was arrested by Alexander County Sheriff’s Office officials on Jan. 27 and charged with misdemeanor child abuse and assault on a child younger than 12.

Per the sheriff’s office, information was received about an alleged assault of a student by a staff member that took place on school property on Jan. 27. Investigators looked into the incident and Campbell is accused of allegedly slapping a student.

According to arrest records, Campbell was issued a $30,000 secured bond which she posted and was released on the same day she was arrested. Her first court appearance will be on Feb. 27.

According to district directory records, Campbell had been listed as an Early Childhood teacher’s assistant at Ellendale Elementary School. Those records have been removed as of Feb. 1.

Campbell is apparently no longer employed as an investigation by Alexander school officials determined ending her employment was warranted.

The district has not yet issued an official statement.

There is no teaching license on file with the state for Campbell.
