A former Scotland County middle school teacher originally charged with 14 felonies in 2018 that included child pornography and numerous sex offenses has been sentenced after agreeing to a plea deal.

According to the Laurinburg Exchange, Stanley took a plea deal and was sentenced earlier this year, on May 19, by Judge Dawn Layton.

“The sentencing included the first aggravated sentence of 18 to 31 months, the second sentencing of 18 to 31 months after the expiration of the first sentence, the third sentence was 17 to 30 months after the expiration of the second sentence, the fourth sentence was 14 to 26 months after the expiration of the third sentence and the fifth sentence was 14 to 26 months after the expiration of the fourth sentence.”

None of the sentences reported are concurrent, meaning Stanley could possibly serve up to 12 years in prison.

Brianna Nicole Stanley

Brianna Nicole Stanley was charged in December of 2018 with 14 felonies that included:

• three counts of felony statutory sex offense against a child less than 13
• five counts of felony indecent liberties with a student by a teacher
• five counts of felony sexual activity by a teacher
• one count of felony third-degree child exploitation related to child pornography

At the time of her arrest, Stanley was 23 and a first-year teacher. Her victim was 12 years old. The bond set for Stanley at the time was $2.5 million.

Stanley resigned from her position teaching at Carver Middle School in Scotland County, violating a state law requiring teachers to submit a 30-day notice of resignation. Under that law, the school district is required to report Stanley’s resignation to the N.C. State Board of Education.

As of this article, Stanley’s name has not appeared on the teacher license discipline and revocations page maintained by the state board.
