A now-former Scotland County Public Schools high school teacher has been charged with multiple counts of indecent liberties with a child as well as sexual battery.

David Ray Quick, age 55, was arrested on Oct. 30 and charged with three felony counts of indecent liberties with a child and one count of misdemeanor sexual battery.

Quick was issued $150,000 in secured bonds which he posted and was released on the same day as his arrest. His court date will be Dec.12 in Scotland County Superior Court.

Quick’s booking details list him as “David Ray Quick,” however, public voting records and teacher licensing list him as “David Roy Quick.”

“Scotland County Schools was aware of the arrest of former Scotland High School teacher, Mr. David Quick and Mr. Quick was suspended when the allegations were first raised over the summer,” Scotland County Schools Public Information Officer Cheris Hodges said in a statement. “He has not been in a SCS school since then and is no longer an employee with Scotland County Schools. Mr. Quick tendered his resignation on October 28. The school system will be taking further appropriate action in light of the arrest.”

Per the district’s statement, it would appear Quick did not offer his resignation giving the 30-day notice required by law, and the state board of education has the option of revoking his license through the end of the school year.

An active license is on file with the state for “David Roy Quick” in the area of Public Safety (6-12). That license, unless revoked, will not expire until June 2026.

Since this resignation is linked to criminal activity, state statute requires the district to report this resignation to the state board of education.

Scotland County Public Schools directory information lists Quick as a Career and Technical Education teacher.

Quick’s arrest is the 30th public school teacher arrest logged by this website in 2022.

The last arrest of a Scotland County Public Schools employee was in April.

Scotland County Public Schools Band teacher Britton Scott Goodwin, age 32, was arrested on April 26 and was charged with two counts of sexual activity with a student and two counts of taking indecent liberties with a student. He was later released on a $25,000 unsecured bond.
