The 63-year-old Charlotte-Mecklenburg teacher accused last week of having sex with a 17-year-old student was found dead at her Huntersville home in an apparent murder-suicide.
According to FOX46 in Charlotte, 911 call came into the Huntersville Police Dept. from one of Emma Ogle’s family members indicating she was handling a gun. When police arrived on the scene Ogle’s husband Michael had died from a gunshot and shortly after Ogle also died from a gunshot.
CMS issued the following statement:
“Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is aware of a tragic situation involving an employee that occurred off-campus and did not involve any student. Nothing is more important than the well-being of our students and staff. Social and emotional supports have been deployed for those affected in our district. Supports will continue to be available for any students or staff who needs them.”
Ogle was a career and technical education (CTE) health occupations teacher at Garinger high school in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Public School district. She was hired by the district in 2005 and had also worked at Vance High School. The district suspended her with pay effective Oct. 31 pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
