A Rowan-Salisbury School bus driver has resigned after being charged with assaulting a student on their bus who has autism.
Grace Oshields King, age 76, has been charged with assault on a child under 12 and assault on a handicapped person.
King is accused of assaulting a 7-year-old autistic Overton Elementary School student by striking them “with an open hand on the shoulder.”
Rowan-Salisbury Schools officials said that King had worked as a school bus driver for the district for almost a decade.
Surveillance video on the bus was part of what led to King’s arrest, who turned herself in according to law enforcement.
