A former security guard who worked for Charlotte Mecklenburg Public Schools has been charged with 27 counts of various sex crimes against a minor, including statutory rape.
The Mecklenburg County Sheriff Office lists 27 separate charges on the charging documents for Mario McIlwain, age 26.
McIlwain is charged with 9 counts of sex offense with a student, 9 counts of indecent liberties with a child, and 9 counts of statutory rape of a child under the age of 15.
The sexual assault charges all related to one 13-year-old female student
and apparently took place between February and May 2018 at Alexander Graham Middle School in the Charlotte Mecklenburg Public Schools system.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg School officials said that McIlwain was hired in February
2018 as a security guard and his employment has been terminated.
CMS released a statement Wednesday night.
The safety and well-being of students is always a top priority of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. CMS is cooperating fully with CMPD to help ensure vigorous investigation and appropriate prosecution in this matter. Support is available for students, families and others in the school community. To protect student and family privacy, inquiries concerning this active investigation should be directed to CMPD.
The case is still active and Charlotte detectives ask anyone who may have more information about the case or McIlwain should contact Detective Ockerman at 704-432-3905 or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.

Don’t they do ANY screening for people who work in schools? When I taught middle school in Florida, we teachers were all fingerprinted by the FBI.
