Jacob Lewis Scott, age 26, has been charged with indecent liberties with a student. The accuser is allegedly a Lakewood high student who is 18-year old.

While legally an adult, state statute dictates inappropriate activity between a teacher and student is against the law. Indecent liberties with a student is a felony offense.

At his first hearing, a $2,500 unsecured bond was issued for Scott. The next court date is scheduled for June 29th.

Scott had been a teacher at Lakewood High School in Sampson County since 2015.

Scott has a biography that is still posted on the school’s website. In it,  he describes his position as an agriculture teacher and FFA adviser with a family background and believes that “a hands-on approach is key to a student’s success.”

According to school officials, Scott resigned on May 14th. It’s unclear, but unlikely he gave the 30-day notice required by state law.

The arrest of Scott is the 12th such teacher related arrest tracked by this website since January 1, 2018.
