More #RecycledActivists. Beyond all the chanting, noise and general hysterics put on by a lot of women clad in pink shirts, there is the actual bill – #695. Given the theatrics today, it is clear not many of them read it. This was originally just a Foreign Law bill, which I actually wrote about in detail.  There were many questioning why the two would be tied together, which was a little depressing that women didn’t know Sharia law bans abortion completely.  Regardless of what you might read on Wikipedia (eyeroll), the concept that Islam allows it for instances of rape is false; in Islam a woman must present four witnesses that she was raped. Most can’t provide that and are stoned to death.  There is the real #WarOnWomen, yet neither Planned Parenthood nor Naral takes up that cause. The added language came from a previous set of bills, which ironically enough, brought some dissent but nothing like the hyperbolic theater we say today. Perhaps it should have stayed a set of stand alone bills, I can see that argument, but they are not unrelated. Some key points in the bill:

• Bars the use of foreign law, such as Sharia law, from being applied in family court actions in North Carolina, if such action violates a person’s fundamental constitutional rights.

• Expands conscience rights for people in the medical field who have moral or religious objections to participating in any procedure that may lead to an abortion.

• Prohibits coverage for abortion in health plans offered through health care exchanges under “Obamacare,” albeit the usual provisions for rape and incest or the life of the mother.

• Prohibits city and county governments from providing abortion coverage beyond what is provided by the State Health Plan for Teachers and State Employees.

• Bars sex-selective abortions – abortions performed simply because of the unborn child’s gender.

• Requires that anytime a surgical or chemical abortion is performed the doctor must be physically present for the full procedure.

• Prevents Gosnell type violations in abortion clinics, the bill mandates that the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services produce regulations that ensure such clinics are similar to surgical ambulatory centers.

Oh, the radical horror? No where in the bill are clinics closed or access restricted like the protesters claimed. The knee-jerk reaction to anything that even slightly crosses the threshold of “their choice” to murder a baby seems to get worse every year. Small wonder the public is tuning them out more and more.
