Common Core Aligned: Leap Frog

“…to create just these kinds of tests—next-generation assessments aligned to the common core. When the tests are aligned to the common standards, the curriculum will line up as well—and that will unleash powerful market forces in the service of better teaching.” – Bill Gates, 2009 Speech To Natl. Conference of State Legislatures

The goal is to align everything so that students and the money have no where to go but Common Core.

Parents who have versions of Leap Frog products that are pre-Common Core rollout might want to hold onto them instead of yard saling or consigning them.

Common Core State Standards are being rolled out in public schools across the country. Learn more about it here: http://t.co/t3uTN68zGg

NJ’s Governor Moving On Common Core

Common Core backlash has hit New Jersey.
At the recent National Governors Association (NGA) meeting in Tennessee, Governor Chris Christie made statements that he intends to issue an executive order on Common Core at some point this week. While Christie didn’t go into specifics on the order, he did say this:

Christie told the Associated Press that public skepticism about the standards can be traced to a general distrust of the federal government.

He said voters, “given the lack of confidence they have in government in Washington and that type of centralization, want their governors” to figure out solutions that work for their states.

Archer Lose the RepublicansNews outlets are reporting that Common Core was a ‘touchy subject’ at the NGA meeting. That’s ironic since the NGA is one of the two D.C. based trade groups who helped create Common Core. Read More about the NGA, CCSSO and Achieve, Inc. here.

A citizen request for information regarding one of the two D.C. trade groups responsible for the Common Core standards, the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO), yielded some interesting results from the NC Department of Public Instruction (NC DPI).

At least $60,000 in taxpayer funds paid for CCSSO related activity last year. Keep reading, there is more beyond the specific CCSSO dollar figure. Continue reading

Is Governor McCrory Listening On Common Core?

The National Governors Association is finding their involvement with Common Core to be a true double-edged sword. An article in the Wall Street Journal caught my eye titled, Common Core Becomes Touchy Subject for Governors Group. The article allows one free view before a pay-wall jumped up, so read the whole thing.

In particular this quote resonated:

“Common Core has become a divisive issue in our nation, with the concern that the federal government is trying to mandate standards down to states,” Ms. Fallin said Friday. “The governors are listening to their voters and their constituents back home who are concerned about the federal overreach into states, and each governor will do what’s in the best interest of their states.” – Wall Street Journal, 7/11/14

Is Governor McCrory listening to the voters here in North Carolina and the legislature who is moving along the replace bill? Or is he still listening to Eric Guckian?
We’ll find out, I suppose. Continue reading
