PTA Gets Owned For Pro-Common Core Posting On Facebook

One of my Common Core Mom-Brigade pointed this Facebook post out to me made by the National Parent Teacher Association (PTA). The PTA has been pro-C0mmon Core out of the gate, they think it’s just great. Parents are now wise to it and aren’t taking it lying down. The comments on the post say it all: Continue reading

Charlotte Observer Associate Editor Takes Pot Shots At McCrory

Another day, another display of editorial hackery from the Charlotte Observer /News and Observer. Associate Editor Peter St. Onge is either truly ignorant on Common Core or willfully so. Either way, he’s using it to bash Governor McCrory and either way, I’m glad we don’t subscribe to this outlet. What biased garbage.
Pssst – Mr. St. Onge? Do you realize McCrory’s base is beginning to think he’s selling out to the Democrats in trying to be Jim Hunt 2.0? Just look at his administration.

“The event is for Chamber of Commerce members only”

If you live in Holly Springs, there’s a meeting about your kids education but you’re not invited. It’s for the Chamber of Commerce members only. Via News and Observer:

Local and state officials – including state Rep. Paul “Skip” Stam and Wake County school board member Susan Evans – will participate in a panel discussion at 8 a.m. Wednesday at the Holly Springs Cultural Center.

The speakers will talk about capped schools, new school construction, Common Core standards and achievements at local schools.

“We’re trying to make sure the business community in Holly Springs is aware of developments, because it affects them,” said Tom Wyrick, owner of Whizard Academy in Cary and Holly Springs, who helped organize the event. Continue reading

Tennessean Author’s Chuckle-worthy Defense of Common Core

Another day, another Pro-core Op-ed.
This one at The Tennessean by a woman named Betty Anderson. None of these Op-Eds or their authors are really as simple as they seem. Keep reading and you’ll see what I mean. From the article, about Ms. Anderson and I’ve added some hyperlinks to the text:

Betty Anderson is the executive director of Stand for Children Tennessee, an education advocacy organization. She has been involved in education policy for more than 40 years in Tennessee.

A few points about “Stand for Children”
It’s not just a Tennessee outfit, it’s a national one. Yet another education non-profit to add to the myriad of them already out there. It is run by Jonah Edelman, who revealed some tactics in his idea of a ‘corporate education reform’ scenario that got him in hot water.

Stand for Children does a lot of focusing on parents and empowering them. It figures the Pro-Core machine would tap them to push Common Core.

There is a lot of money behind Stand For Children – I know, you’re shocked.
They have two arms, the Stand for Children Leadership Center is a 501(c)(3) and the other is Stand for Children, Inc. which is a 501(c)(4). This split allows them to enter into some political arenas. In 2012, Stand for Children Inc. gave over $321k to campaigns and PACS to influence education races and blew nearly half a million on ‘consulting and strategy’ groups. If you wish to view their 990 tax filings, hit the links below:

Fun fact: The woman in charge of the political version, Stand for Children, Inc., is none other than Michael Bloomberg’s daughter, Emma. Read more about Emma’s focus and link to Teach for America here.

In 2013, the two non-profits had c Continue reading
