A former Davidson County Public Schools teacher is facing embezzlement charges.
Anna Kristine Lashmit, age 28, was arrested on Aug. 17 on one count of felony embezzlement. The charges stem from her service as the treasurer of the North Davidson Athletic Association (NDAA).
Lashmit was issued a $5,000 unsecured bond which she posted and was released. Her next court appearance will be on Sept. 14 in Davidson County District Court. No mugshot was provided by law enforcement.
Per court records, Lashmit allegedly embezzled $9,640 from the NDAA on Feb. 7, 2020, when she was the fiduciary for the organization.
Warrant information says the money was taken “in personal purchases and other debits to the North Davidson Athletic Association’s First National Bank account.”
Lashmit had been employed at Reeds Elementary School in Lexington last school year, per a Davidson County Public Schools spokeswoman.
She was supposed to be assigned to Northwest Elementary in an exceptional children’s classroom for the upcoming 2023-24 year.
The district indicated it had suspended Lashmit with pay pending an investigation, however, it appears she resigned at some point following the suspension.
Lashmit’s North Carolina teaching license lapsed on June 30 of this year. The license was for the teaching area of Elementary Education (K-6).
