Following an investigation into a report received by the sheriff’s office, Mitteer was fired from his position at the school on Oct. 25.

Mitteer was issued bail in the amount of $100,000. His next court date is Dec. 19.

The case is still ongoing and any with relevant information is asked to call (919) 693-3213.

Oxford Preparatory School issued the following statement:

“Michael Mitteer, who was hired as a high school English teacher at Oxford Preparatory School in August 2013, was suspended from his employment on Monday 10/24/22 after school administration received an allegation about inappropriate communication with a student.
Upon conclusion of an initial investigation on Friday 10/28/22, Mr. Mitteer’s employment at Oxford Preparatory School was terminated.

The school has fully cooperated with local law enforcement and maintaining a safe environment for our students continues to remain as the highest priority.
In this effort, we encourage the continued use of the Say Something Anonymous Reporting System and reporting to the School Resource Officer — Brad O’Briant (bradobriant@oxfordprep.org).”

The statement also said that the school’s Student Services Team is ready to assist any student that needs support.

Mitteer has an active NC teacher’s license in the areas of Theater Arts, Speech Communications K-12, and English 9-12.

His license will remain until June 2024 unless revoked beforehand.
