A Gaston County assistant principal has been issued a $1 million bond in connection with her arrest involving sex crimes with a student.

Lisa Renee Rothwell, age 34, has been charged with six felony counts of sex with a student by a school official.
According to arrest warrants, the alleged incidents include both sexual intercourse and oral sex with a student on six separate occasions between April 1 and July 31, 2019.
Sex with a student by a school official is a Class G felony that carries a sentence of 8 to 31 months in prison per count. If she received the maximum for each, Rothwell could spend up to 15 and a half years in prison.
Rothwell has been employed by Gaston County Schools for over a decade as an English and exceptional children’s teacher. Her current position is the assistant principal of Stuart W. Cramer High, which she began in 2015. She was hired to Stuart W. Cramer in 2014 as an exceptional children’s teacher.
Rothwell has also worked at North Gaston High School, Stanley Middle School, Kiser elementary and Springfield elementary.
The district has not released a statement yet, however, Rothwell’s bio page is missing from the Stuart W. Cramer website and her contact information was removed from the staff directory sometime after her arrest.
Rothwell has an active NC teaching license in the areas of Learning Disabled K-12m English 9-12, Elementary Education (K-6), School Administrator: Principal.
