According to the Kernersville Police Department, the alleged incidents took place in Fall of 2017 and involved two male students under the age of 18 at the high school where Swinson worked.

Swinson was issued a $150,000 unsecured bond, which she posted and was released. Her next court appearance will be in September.

Brent Campbell, a spokesman for Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, confirmed that Swinson had begun teaching in 2007 at East Forsyth High and that Swinson, who was at first suspended, had been fired on August 2nd.

Swinson was also apparently a coach at the high school.

Lawyers representing Swinson from, Quander & Rubain, released the following statement:

“Rebecca Swinson was an English teacher, cross-country coach, and member of the East Forsyth High School community for 5 years. When Rebecca learned of the charges against her she cooperated with law enforcement and turned herself in. Due to the nature of the charges, it is tempting to rush to judgment; however, we would caution the public against doing so. This is a very difficult time for Rebecca, her family, and dear friends. We would ask that she and all of the individuals involved be given privacy. We have great confidence in the legal process and that justice will be served for Rebecca and those involved.”

Swinson is the second person from East Forsyth High in 2018 to be arrested on sex-related charges involving students.

In January of this year, Jennifer Pike, age 43, was charged with two felony counts of sexual activity with a student. Law enforcement indicated that the incident happened in September 2017.

Pike had served as a volunteer at East Forsyth High School when the alleged incident happened according to The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.
