North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey today announced the arrest of an Alamance County elementary school principal on insurance fraud related charges involving pet insurance.
Robert Grayson Dail, 35, of 201 Slate Drive, Gibsonville, was charged with insurance fraud, attempting to obtain property by false pretense, common law forgery and common law uttering, all felonies.
According to arrest warrants, Dail attempted to obtain money from Nationwide Insurance Co. by submitting falsified and forged veterinary invoices to the company. The offenses occurred on Dec. 28, 2023.
Dail turned himself in to Alamance County deputies on Dec. 5. He was released under $25,000 unsecured bond and had a first appearance in Alamance County District Court on Dec. 6.
Dail is principal at B. Everett Jordan Elementary School in Saxapahaw.
Commissioner Causey encourages North Carolinians to help keep insurance premiums low by reporting suspicious fraud.
“Insurance fraud is not a victimless crime,” Commissioner Causey said. “It hits all of us in the pocket through higher premiums.”

Update
Dail took a plea deal in August 2025 and was sentenced to one day in prison with one day’s credit applied. He was also given 100 hours of community service and was ordered to pay $519.73 in restitution.
As of October 2025, Dail has not appeared in the teacher discipline log kept by the NC State Board of Education and maintained by Department of Public Instruction. This is likely due to his license expiring before his case concluded.
