Fired Pitt County teacher charged with statutory rape of 14-year-old student

A recently fired Pitt County Public Schools teacher has been arrested on multiple sex crimes, including statutory rape, of a 14-year-old student.

On June 7, 2024, a school resource officer with the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation into possible improper activities between a teacher at Wellcome Middle School and a 14-year-old student. Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit joined the investigation.
On June 11, 2024, the evidence collected was presented to a Magistrate and warrants were issued for the arrest of 37-year-old Wellcome Middle School teacher Heydi Monroy of Greenville.
The charges include 3 felonies; Statutory Rape of a Child, Sexual Activity with a Student, and Indecent Liberties with a Student. Monroy was arrested near her home on June 11, 2024 and was booked into the Pitt County Detention Center, where she is being held without bond.
Monroy is scheduled for a first appearance on June 12, 2024. No further information is available for release at this time, as this is an on-going investigation.
