Earlier today, a South Providence teacher, 60-year-old David Simone, was charged with misdemeanor simple assault at the conclusion of an investigation conducted by the UCSO. The investigation began last week after the school’s resource officer responded to and de-escalated an active physical altercation involving Simone and a student. After extensive follow-up into the circumstances surrounding the confrontation, Simone was charged and served with a criminal summons earlier this morning. Simone is currently on administrative leave per UCPS.
