A Lincoln County Public Schools teacher has been charged with assaulting a student.

Geoff Larry Harte, age 49, was charged with simple assault on a student as the result of an interaction in a hallway at the school Harte works at.

No photo of Harte was made available at the time of publication.

Harte was given a $500 unsecured bond and will have to appear in court again on June 2.

According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, the alleged incident occurred as Harte and a student were approaching each other in a hallway and Harte struck the 14-year-old student with his elbow.

The school district initially investigated the claim and later placed Harte on administrative leave.

Harte has an active teaching license on file with the state in the area of Spanish K-12. That license does not expire until June 30, 2025.
