Burlington Christian Academy coach arrested on sex charges involving student

A Burlington Christian Academy coach has been arrested on sex charges involving a student, according to the Burlington Police Department.

Marissa Faye Carter, age 23 was arrested and charged with one count of Felony Sex Act with a Student and one count of Felony Indecent Liberties with a Student.

Sex with a student is a Class G Felony that has a sentence of eight to 31 months in prison. Indecent liberties with a student is a Class I felony that carries a sentence of three to 12 months.

Following her arrest, Carter was held at the Alamance County Jail under a $10,000 secured bond which she posted and was released.

According to the Burlington Police Department’s statement, the department received information that a coach at Burlington Christian Academy was “involved in an inappropriate relationship with a student.”

“The Burlington Police Department and the school administration worked together to confirm the allegations and the relationship between the school employee and one student. No other students were found to have been involved,” the statement says.

Carter has no teaching license on file with the state nor does she appear to be registered to vote in North Carolina, according to voter records maintained by the state.

Burlington Christian Academy has been in operation for over 40 years and is the largest non-public school in Alamance County. According to the school’s website, there are over 660 students, and serves students in grades from Preschool to High School.
