Cumberland Teacher Charged With Assault On Student

A Cumberland County teacher has been charged with assault on a student.

Kristian Joy Cook, age 36, has been charged by Cumberland County Sheriff with two counts of simple assault on a student.

According to the Cumberland Sheriff, Cook turned herself in, was taken to the local detention center and then released on a $1,000 unsecured bond.

According to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Facebook page, Cook grabbed a female student by the throat and later forced the same student to the ground by her hair.

It was reported to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office on March 21, 2018, that 36 year old Kristian Cook, a teacher at Howard Learning Academy, assaulted a minor student by grabbing her by the throat and pushing her into a table. A short time later Cook grabbed the minor victim by the hair and pulled her backwards, forcing her to the ground.

The incident happened on the campus of Howard Learning Academy on March 21.

Cook was hired as a substitute teacher on January 25 of 2016. She was hired to work with exceptional children.

On March 21, school officials indicated that she was suspended without pay. Cook failed to give 30 days notice required by law and resigned seven days later on March 28.
