Common Core Aligned…
“…to create just these kinds of tests—next-generation assessments aligned to the common core. When the tests are aligned to the common standards, the curriculum will line up as well—and that will unleash powerful market forces in the service of better teaching.” – Bill Gates, 2009 Speech To Natl. Conference of State Legislatures
The goal is to align everything so that students and the money have nowhere to go but Common Core.
Last time, we we looked at Khan Academy. Today we look at Tabtor. You’ve likely seen ads for them on Facebook.

Last time we looked at Edulastic. Today we look at Khan Academy.
We’ve used Khan Academy in our house prior to Common Core. My kids loved it and the instructions were clear and entertaining. These days, not so much. They’ve gone Common Core Aligned.

Guilford Cty Schools Spends Almost $160k On Common Core Aligned Digital Media
At the behest of a reader who was upset to find their district using Common Core compliant technology tools and materials and that a brand new contract for more was recently completed. I did a Freedom of Information request for Guilford County Schools (GCS) regarding “Discovery Education”.
In response to my Freedom of Information request, I received a contract from GCS that detailed spending on streaming digital media for K-12. The contract total was just under $160k at $159, 802.00 for licensing. Was this done with Race To the Top money or public funds?
Discovery Education has aligned their streaming curricula to the Common Core. Parents should be aware that Guilford schools are using this material. Since it is streaming and done in the classroom, the child is seeing it and not the parents. Parents should also read the Discovery Education Privacy Policy and the Terms of Use for the Streaming feature. Continue reading

Market Analysis Confirms Common Core Is A Cash Cow
A market analysis done by Onvia Inc. seems to be pointing at Common Core to be one of the biggest cash cows ever in terms of Education contracts and technology. Onvia serves a variety of industries, but the Education industry’s page was eye-opening. The estimated cost in the report is likely already out of date. The document also addresses technology as being one of the most expensive pieces of Common Core. Mr. Gates will be pleased to hear that after he dumped around $3 billion into pushing Common Core from his Gates Foundation.
This market analysis is a White paper on spending related to Common Core. Onvia quotes the Fordham Institute quite a lot throughout the paper – 17 times. The paper also makes CommonCoreAlignedreference to an Onvia database where a query on Common Core returned over 4,000 matches in project documents.

Last installment of Common Core Aligned, we looked at NC based Carson Dellosa Publishing. Today we’re looking at Edulastic, yet another example of industry cashing in on the Common Core aligned train. Edulastic was rolled out by SnapWiz. They’re an eLearning/Digital company. Check out their partners.
Edulastic is on Twitter and their profile says quite a bit: Continue reading

Another company cashing in on Common Core. Carson-Dellosa Publishing operates right out of Greensboro, North Carolina. From their website, everything is aligned… even “Common Core Decor”?? The information below comes right off their site: Continue reading
