A former Charlotte area private school coach has been charged with taking indecent liberties with a student.

On 11/08/2024 it was reported to the Sexual Assault Unit that a teacher/coach was having an inappropriate relationship with a student at Charlotte Country Day School.
The victim reported that she and the suspect kissed on two different occasions while she was a student at the school and the suspect was her cross country coach and substitute teacher at the school. She also reported that he tried to have sex with her and showed her his penis.
She reported these incidents occurred between late January and late February of 2024.
The victim produced phone call records showing she and the suspect spoke frequently during this time and at all times of the day and night.
The victim reported that the suspect requested they only communicate via Whatsapp to hide their relationship.
The victim did have a few text messages between her and the suspect from October of 2024 where the suspect reached out to her to wish her a happy birthday. The messages mention the suspect still being in love with the victim and are inappropriate considering their coach/student relationship.
The school also confirmed that it was reported to them in 2023 that the suspect was having an inappropriate relationship with a different student.

History: Employed with the school since 2015. Held roles of coach and substitute teacher. School put him on administrative leave after the accusations surfaced and then later terminated his employment.

“We understand that this news is difficult, and we are here to support students, families, alumni, faculty, and staff,” interim head of school David Mancos said in a letter to families. “We know how deeply you care about your children’s safety, and their well-being remains our highest priority. Our school counselors are available to talk with students and provide guidance during this time. If your child would like to speak with someone, please reach out to the appropriate divisional counselor.”
NC Teacher License Information: There is no teaching license on file with the state for Elliott.
