A teacher in Halifax County has been arrested on indecent liberties charges involving a student.

According to a statement released by the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office on Facebook on Sept. 28, Rashad Hakim Mayers, age 26, surrendered to authorities on charges of allegedly taking Indecent Liberties with a former minor student.
“At the time of the alleged incidents, Mayers was the victim’s teacher. These alleged incidents were discovered and reported to the Sheriff’s Office by the family of the victim. Mayers is no longer employed with KIPP Halifax,” the Halifax Sheriff’s Office post says.
No details about the age of the victim or Mayer’s teaching position were available.
KIPP Halifax has multiple campuses that include a primary school and a college prep school. It is yet unclear which one Mayer worked at, but apparently he is no longer employed.
Mayer was released from custory under a $50,000 bond and his next court date is scheduled for Oct. 27.
“This investigation is not finished. We want to make sure that there are no other victims,” According to Lt. M. Brown of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.
There is no teaching license on file with the state for Mayer.
