Another day, another display of editorial hackery from the Charlotte Observer /News and Observer. Associate Editor Peter St. Onge is either truly ignorant on Common Core or willfully so. Either way, he’s using it to bash Governor McCrory and either way, I’m glad we don’t subscribe to this outlet. What biased garbage.
Pssst – Mr. St. Onge? Do you realize McCrory’s base is beginning to think he’s selling out to the Democrats in trying to be Jim Hunt 2.0? Just look at his administration.
Each time, as with other issues, McCrory thought he found a seam that allowed him to be everyone’s friend. With abortion, he said he was signing legislation that protected women’s health. With Common Core, his office assured voters the new standards will be “as high or higher.”
Those quotes probably sounded good at the governor’s strategy session, but moderates know better. The abortion law restricts abortions. The Common Core law jeopardizes N.C. standards when some structural tweaks were all that was needed.
By signing both laws, McCrory retreated from moderate positions. Each time, he sold out to extreme conservatives.
“Extreme Conservatives”.
He uses that word, but I don’t think it means what he thinks it
means.
I left a comment on Mr. St. Onge’s theatrical word salad. You can view it below. I suggest other people chime in and educate Mr. St. Onge.
“The Common Core law jeopardizes N.C. standards when some

Structural tweaks? My God, You are ignorant on Common Core. From start to finish, it is a fundamentally flawed experiment owned and operated by DC trade groups and outside entities. Common Core is a sub-basement of standards. Please, stop embarrassing yourself Mr. St. Onge.
Extreme conservatives? I’ve been fighting Common Core alongside folks on the opposite side of the aisle from me, sir. Repeal of Common Core is supported across the entire political spectrum of voters, are you just upset your side of the aisle didn’t help lead the charge or are you just intentionally trying to inflammatory?
Yet another shamefully slanted article with a Pro-Common Core jab that has the added bonus of slamming the Governor. What a disgrace Charlotte Observer has become.
