#OWS: You’re Doing It Wrong

I have said this since day one of the Day of Rage crap: “You’re doing it wrong.” Corporations will come and go, so will banks. The government has become a revolving door for corruption. That is the door that you have to stick your foot in order to stop it turning anymore.

The crux of the problem with OWS abuse of the corporate greed/99% meme is this:

ChoozLiberty:

Ashley, you state that you are sick of politicians being corrupted, but you blame private companies for this. Isn’t this kind of frustration a little mis-directed? Shouldn’t we rather be demanding that our public officals be held accountable for their actions? Private businessmen and women act within a framework of rules. These rules are created by the government. Nothing corrupt happens unless our government allows it.

Ashley Messer:

You’re right, our government has allowed these corporations to get away with their actions, but our government is not holding them responsible, so we–the 99%–are going to start holding them responsible. We are camped out in front of Chase bank, Merrill Lynch, and right down the road is Bank of America (in Syracuse); our presence there, and the information we are putting out about these (and other) companies will hopefully deter people from doing business with them. We are going to hold them personally responsible because our government won’t, and it’s not right. We want to hit these businesses where it hurts–their customers–in hopes of making them think twice about how they do business. Just because our government let them get away with their actions, does’t make it right for those companies to steal millions of dollars for hard working citizens.
