A Yadkin County teacher, who is also a coach, has been charged with assault.
Jack Everett Moss, age 48, has been charged with misdemeanor simple assault on a juvenile.
“On October 31st, 2023, we were made aware of an incident involving a teacher and student at Forbush Middle School,” the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Department wrote in a release on Facebook. “An investigation was started and charges were subsequently filed on that date in the name of Jack Moss for one count of simple assault. This is an ongoing investigation involving a juvenile and no further information will be released at this time.”
The Yadkin Sheriff did not release a photo of Moss.
The school district indicated Moss has been employed since August 2015 and had also worked in the district from 1998 to 2009. He worked in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth district between 2009 and 2015 when he returned to Yadkin.
At the time of his suspension in October, he was working as a math teacher at Forbush Middle School. He also currently serves the Forbush High School’s baseball coach.
Moss has been suspended by the district before. In October 2008, Moss had been put on paid suspension involving an altercation at a football practice session. That suspension lasted until mid-January 2009 and Moss resigned in June of that same year.
“The administration of Yadkin County Schools cooperates fully with law enforcement in the investigation (and prosecution, if applicable) of any allegations of misconduct against an employee of the Yadkin County Schools,” a Yadkin County Schools spokesperson said in a statement.
Moss has an active teaching license on file with the state in the area of Mathematics 9-12. That license will expire on June 30, 2026.
