Yesterday was election day for the primary run-offs in North Carolina. Impressive results came in the 6th Congressional District race as Mark Walker beat Phil Berger, Jr. by about 20% of the vote. Roll Call has an article up on the race titled, Phil Berger, Jr. loses Nod, which tries to blame the weather for the poor turnout for Berger. That same weather didn’t seem to affect Walker voters. It would appear that the “GOP operatives” either totally misread this race or ignored the warning signs. Maybe both.
Walker is now up against Emily’s List endorsed Democrat Laura Fjeld. She’s already taken to Twitter to call Walker an ‘extremist’ and invited Berger voters to join her.
Mark Walker is an extremist who doesn’t represent our values. Read my statement: http://t.co/QvjguHyG5x #nc06 #ncpol

Don’t get too excited, her twitter feed is littered with the words ‘extreme’, ‘partisan’ and ‘rhetoric’. Irony just chuckled.
I’m proud to have earned the endorsement of the North Carolina AFL-CIO. http://t.co/ZJU8IXXPAY

Fjeld likes the words ‘extreme’ and ‘extremist’. A lot.
“So many people I meet are fed up with the dysfunction in Washington,” she said. “When you engage people, they immediately say we’ve gotten too focused on extreme rhetoric.”

Also of interest was the Wake County District Attorney race between Jeff Cruden and John Bryant. It appears Bryant has won with around a 26% margin.
The State Board of Elections website has the following results. Note, they are not listed yet as official on the site. The Board of Elections site also notes the turnout of voters for this particular primary run-off election as being 105,147 voting out of a possible 1,680,164 voters. That’s around only 6 and a quarter percent; rather poor.
