#CommonCore Action Alert – Inquire on Status of HB 1061

What is the status of HB 1061/ SB 812?

We know these bills passed their respective Houses and have since been referred to their respective education committees:

06/10/2014 Senate Ref To Com On Education/Higher Education
06/11/2014 House Ref To Com On Education

Since then, we have heard little about the conference committee to merge these bills.
Yes, it is time to get on the phone and fire up the emails yet again!
The House Education Committee Chairs are:

Linda Johnson –  Linda.Johnson2@ncleg.net  919-733-5861

James Langdon, Jr. – James.Langdon@ncleg.net  919- 733-5849

The Senate Education/Higher Ed Co-Chairs are:

Dan Soucek – Dan.Soucek@ncleg.net  919-733-5724

Jerry Tillman – Jerry.Tillman@ncleg.net  919-733-5870

Sample House Email Text:

Dear Representatives Johnson and Langdon,

I applaud the House’s efforts in passing HB 1061 – Replace CCSS w/NC’s Higher Academ. Standards.

I understand this bill is now back with the Education Committee, of which you are the Chairs. Now that the House and Senate have both passed their versions, the bills must be reconciled. It is critical that these bills be merged and a final version be passed during the short session in order for the Standards Commission within the bill to be able to be established and start work.

I wish to inquire as to the status of the HB 1061/SB 812 as it pertains to the conference committee that needs to be formed.
I look forward to your reply.
Respectfully,

<YOUR NAME HERE>

The same letter can be used for the Senate, just alter the opening as follows:

Dear Senators Soucek and Tillman,

I applaud the House’s efforts in passing SB 812 – Maintain Authority Over Academic Standards.
