The Teacher Lied. Nuggets Died…Or Something.
The Hoke country school board in NC that has been in the news for tormenting three pre-schoolers over their home packed lunches has decided to release “documents” about their investigation into the matter. The school is going to reclaim it’s integrity by throwing the offending teacher under the bus. Apparently the “documents” being released reveal the teacher who was policing the kids lunches that day is the one ultimately to blame and did not cooperate with the investigation.
The teacher wasn’t the only one not cooperating according to the attorney for the school system, Nick Sojka. Sojka blames conservative bloggers for calling attention to their lunch inspection and usurpation tactics. Gee, so sorry to point out to the nation that your school was deciding what was best for kids instead of their parents. So, in a nutshell — a lying teacher and conservative bloggers are to blame for getting caught the uproar, not the fact there is a policy in place which dictates the school can check lunches and force the kids to take an additional item from the school in order to have a ‘balanced’ lunch. Right. Got it.

While school leaders looked into the flap, Maynor was placed on leave, Sojka said, not because of the lunch situation, but because she did not fully cooperate with the investigation.
“In the course of investigating this matter, there was inaccurate and contradictory information provided to administrators,” he said.
Paperwork released at Monday’s meeting suggests that Maynor lied during the investigation, saying she followed protocol by bringing milk to the student. She later admitted that she sent the girl through the cafeteria line.
After her resignation, parents spoke out in support of Maynor, saying the school system used her as a scapegoat to cover up intrusive policies of inspecting children’s homemade lunches. The controversy even caught the attention of national news outlets and conservative bloggers, who accused the school of being “food police.”
While Sojka acknowledged that pre-K teachers are supposed to supplement any missing nutritional item in a student’s packed lunch with items from the cafeteria, he said the school does not inspect lunch boxes.
“Hoke County schools are not the lunch police,” he said. “There is no requirement or mandate that lunches be searched.”
