RNC 2012 Edition

The 40th Republican National Convention has come to a close and I can say without a doubt that We Built This.

What did we see? We saw a lot of passionate speeches and some controversy. We saw no lack of media bias, which was expected, but still managed to exceed disgust expectations.

What did we come away with? We came away with a sense that there were finally some adults in the room and that the hard jobs that are ahead of us as a nation will finally be addressed — and resolved. A lot of people were hoping for harder punches to be thrown at Obama – give him a taste of his own medicine. That was not what I expected, however. I expected an even, consistent tone that hit Obama on his record and that is exactly what was delivered. This convention was a success in my opinion.

I want to draw attention to the speech given by Pam Finlayson early on in the evening. It brought me to tears several times. I would urge you to read it.

Eastwood was perfect. Understated, with humor yet a remorseful tone at the same time, using an empty chair as a prop in which an invisible Obama was seated. Fitting. Eastwood had many memorable lines like, “When somebody does not do the job, we got to let him go,” and this zinger for Biden, “You’re getting as bad as Biden,” he said to the chair. “Biden is the intellect of the Democratic Party: kind of a grin with a body behind it.”

Rubio turned it up a notch and one of his best lines was, “These are the ideas that people come to America to get away from.” Rubio’s speech and introduction of Mitt Romney were clear and rang true.

Mitt Romney’s speech can be described as nothing less than a sincere and honest home run. If I had any reservations about him before, they are now gone. This man, with Paul Ryan as his VP, will lead America back into the light. His speech was longer than the others, as to be expected, but it was this line that drove it home for me and I would think for everyone watching, “President Obama promised to slow the rise of the oceans and to heal the planet. My promise is to help you and your family.”
