Iredell-Statesville Schools Slams A-F Grading In Letter To Parents
The Iredell-Statesville School district sent home a rather stiff letter to parents on the move to the A-F grading system for schools.
Also included were letters from the local Chamber of Commerce and a “social impact marketing” firm.

Iredell Schools Moving Goalposts On Bond?
In the last month or so, I’ve covered the Iredell schools and their bond vote issue. Now that it has passed, it looks like there is a moving of goalposts being attempted.

Handing out political material in schools and by defacto using them as staging platforms again? I’m getting seriously sick of writing these kinds of articles.

Iredell Touts Improved Test Scores With “Lowered Bar”
You can’t make this stuff up. The headline at Statesville.com reads, “Iredell test scores improve with lowered achievement bar”.
Excerpt:
The positive numbers, though, are partly the result of a strategic decision the State Board of Education made in March to add an extra achievement level to EOG and EOC tests. For about two decades in North Carolina, students were given either a score of 1,2,3 or 4, with 3s and 4s considered passing. But in response to larger-than-expected numbers of third-graders being likely to need summer school for lack of reading on grade level per the state’s new Read to Achieve law, the State Board voted 8-4 in March to add a fifth level, and now scores of 3,4 and 5 are considered passing. Under the new system, level 3 students have “sufficient command” of the material, but level 4 and 5 students are “career and college ready.”
Well… DUH.
Of course if you lower the bar for scores it is going to look like there was improved inigoachievement. This is smoke and mirrors, folks.

Iredell-Stateville Schools Won’t Answer On pro-Core Petition
When confronted on Twitter about a pro-Common Core petition put up on Change.org, the Iredell-Statesville schools account refused to answer the questions posed and then deleted their tweets to me.

Iredell Schools Pushes Pro-Core Petition
This apparently came as an ‘action alert’ to parents in Iredell-Stateville School district. I’m digging further to see if this was blasted out by email or not. It’s inappropriate at best and what’s rather disgusting about it is the blanket statement that every teacher there is on board with Common Core. More of that ‘go along to get along’ strong-arming going on over in Iredell-Statesville?
