“…to create just these kinds of tests—next-generation assessments aligned to the common core. When the tests are aligned to the common standards, the curriculum will line up as well—and that will unleash powerful market forces in the service of better teaching.” – Bill Gates, 2009 Speech To Natl. Conference of State Legislatures
The goal is to align everything so that students and the money have nowhere to go but Common Core.
Last time we looked at The Achievement Network (Anet). Today we’re looking into a group called Third Sector New England, Inc.

CMS Superintendent Heath Morrison wants the Common Core Opposition to be specific. I think he will be getting more than he bargained for. Ann Doss Helms over at the Charlotte Observer’s Your Schools blog has the article up on this challenge. Go read the whole article, especially the bit she quotes from the Achieve, Inc. guy. Relevant snippet:
Mike Cohen of the DC-based nonprofit group Achieve, who helped develop the standards with state leaders, said President Obama and U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan inadvertently hurt the cause by “taking credit” for the Common Core push and using Race to the Top grants to prod states to embrace the standards.
Inadvertently hurt the cause? That’s a laugh. Race To The Top grants which arguably were monetary coercion for to adopt the Common Core were funded with Obama administration stimulus funds. Most people don’t know that. For some deeper reading on The Race To The Top, check out my three part series here. Continue reading
Yesterday in Raleigh, the NC Chamber continued to wage war on the opponents to Common Core by holding a forum at Marbles Kids Museum. At this forum, speakers and guests included far Left leaning NC state Senator Stein, the COO of Achieve, Inc. and a few teachers who made some rather unsettling claims about the Common Core. Several people from SAS were there, of course. Remember, SAS has a ton of money to gain from Common Core, yet their own Cary Academy doesn’t use it. Hypocrisy anyone? The only opposition was our Lt. Governor, Dan Forest. Good for him for getting there and representing the will of the people.
Please note, this is part one of two on this event. I have more coming.
Politicizing by an NC Senator, propaganda from Achieve Inc. and the Wake County Teacher of the Year who claims she is a better teacher because of a set of standards. GOOD TIMES. Read more and see the tweets from the event… Continue reading
