Santos Alejandro Valladares, age 28, was charged on Oct. 6 with two counts of disseminating obscenities and three counts of disseminating obscenities to a minor.

Law enforcement began investigating following a tip received by Union County Public Schools staff. The tip indicated Valladares was having inappropriate contact with students online using the app SnapChat.

Records from the Union County Detention Center show he is no longer being held there and likely has posted bail.

According to the district, Valladares is a teacher at Weddington High School and has worked as a teacher in the district since 2017. The district also said that he still has a job with Union County Schools but has been placed on administrative leave since Sept. 28.

There is no teaching license on file with the state for Valladares. He is the 20th North Carolina school employee arrest tracked by this website in 2021.
