A teacher at the St. David’s School in Raleigh was arrested on peeping charges after allegedly being caught taking photographs up the skirt of a teen student.

Police charged Todd Christopher Aberts, age 37, with felony secret peeping and felony possession of a photographic image from secret peeping.

Aberts, who was arrested May 1, was being held in the Wake County Detention Center but was released after posting a $50,000 of a $100,000 secured bond.

As a condition of his release, Aberts cannot have contact with the victim or anyone under the age of 18.

The warrant states that Aberts secretly used “a device to create two photographic images” up the skirt of an 18-year-old student.

The warrant says the images were “underneath her clothing for the purpose of viewing her body or undergarments and without her consent.”

According to law enforcement, the incidents took place on school grounds.

Aberts worked at St. David’s School in Raleigh but the school indicates he has been fired and he is banned from the premises.

St. David’s Headmaster Jonathan Yonan issued a statement on the arrest.

“We are aware that a support staff member was arrested off campus yesterday evening following an investigation by the Raleigh Police,” said Headmaster Yonan. “Yesterday afternoon we learned a staff member may have inappropriately photographed a fully-clothed upper school student. The School immediately turned the matter over to the police for investigation. The staff member arrested is no longer employed by St. David’s.”

The statement also thanked the community for its vigilance and that the “safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority.”

A second message was sent by Yonan to parents of St. David’s students:

“All appropriate actions are being taken. It is standard school policy that employees are subjected to a thorough criminal background check prior to employment. Because of our longstanding partnership with the Raleigh Police Department, our school was able to respond effectively and promptly. We hold the safety of our students as our highest priority. We lean firmly on the truth that God identifies and cares for all those who are afflicted, and we invite you to join us in praying at this time for all parties involved.”

According to state records, Aberts does not hold a North Carolina teaching license.

In 2015, a music teacher at St. David’s was arrest on similar charges.

Scott Anthony Mann pleaded guilty to taking indecent liberties with a minor for photographing young boys, ranging in ages 8 to 12, while in the school bathroom facilities. Mann also admitted to setting up cameras in public bathrooms and he was sentenced to five years in jail.
