Loretta Nelson, age 40, was arrested by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department for one count of solicitation of a child by computer or certain other electronic devices to commit an unlawful sex act, two counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, and three counts of indecent liberties with a student.

The investigation into Nelson began December 1st of 2018 after a tip was received about a possible inappropriate teacher-student relationship.

Detectives investigated and found corroborating evidence such as text messages and explicit photos.

Law enforcement records state that Nelson “exchanged inappropriate text messages” with a student and “engaged in sexual conversations with the juvenile as well as sending explicit photos” with a minor.

Nelson was taken to the Cumberland County Detention Center and after being assigned a $17,000 secured bond. Her first appearance in court is Monday.

The school has not commented on the matter.

Nelson is the 5th teacher in Cumberland County to be arrested within the last year.

In December 2018, Dmitri Pelaez, age 30, was charged with six counts of indecent liberties with a student and one count of sexual activity with a student.
