The GOP kept control of the U.S. House and took control of the U.S. Senate in a coast to coast wave on election day.  News came yesterday that the GOP adds one more with Alaska  to the U.S. Senate, bringing the total to eight seats won. Even though the GOP now controls both houses of Congress, as Glenn Reynolds would say, ‘don’t get cocky, kid.’

The most expensive Senate race in the country took place in my home state of North Carolina, where Republican Thom Tillis unseated Democrat Kay Hagan.  Even with local media heavily in the tank for Hagan, Tillis still pulled it out. Those same media outlets are scratching their heads now.

On the state level, the wave continued. State legislatures are also now controlled by Republicans.  That translates to 68 out of 98 legislative chambers according to Real Clear Politics, who also notes that 23 Gubernatorial offices are now held by Republicans in states where both houses are also under Republican control.

Politico noted that Republicans gained more than 300 seats in legislatures and controls legislatures in 29 states; the biggest gains since the 1920’s.

These state house and gubernatorial races are important. Voters seemingly said ‘enough’ and acted locally in a big way.  The gubernatorial results brings me to an issue that has rapidly become a fire storm and was indeed a losing ballot box issue this cycle: Common Core.

The GOP effectively owns Common Core. Now it’s time for them to disown it.  The National Governor’s Association needs to wake up and recognize the revolt already in progress.

The money being thrown into messaging by the pro-Common Core groups is out there for all to see. This messaging includes  “Comprehensive and targeted communications” by Bill Gates funded outfits for Republicans for after the 2014 election cycle.  Mercedes Schneider lays out this targeting:

Indeed, aside from his providing CFSS website photos, guess who is footing the New Venture Fund bill for this CCSS push?

You know it: Bill Gates– to the tune of $10.3 million for “comprehensive and targeted communications”:

“Comprehensive and targeted communications” apparently includes Republican politicians following the November 4, 2014, elections. On November 11, 2014, CFSS issued this memo to “interested parties.” Here is an excerpt:

Even amidst a Republican wave, candidates elected to statewide governing positions largely resisted pressure to call for repeal of the Standards:

 86% of Governors in pro-Common Core states have not expressed interest in repealing the Standards (38 of 44 Governors)
 90% of state Superintendents in Common Core states have not taken steps to repeal the Standards (40 of 44 Superintendents)
 Among the 44 states with Common Core on the books, only six Governors and three State Superintendents have sought to repeal it

Target the Republicans. Be sure that they feel secure in supporting CCSS.

Never mind that the CCSS assessments have yet to hit most of the nation.

That’s a lot of money.

Let’s not forget how much money was pumped into losing campaigns in 2014, shall we?

Dear GOP, Jeb Bush is not viable. Common Core is a big reason why.
Do not underestimate the Common Core Opposition.  This is our kids you’re messing with and believe me, we haven’t even started really making noise yet.  Testing and Common Core go hand in hand and the rebellion has just begun.
If the GOP wants to keep what it has won in state house and governor mansions, they need to listen to the people on Common Core.  If they listen to the unelected and unaccountable organizations behind Common Core, the GOP loses.  It’s just that simple.
